Wal-Mart has cheap bookcases that do hold up I have had mine for 5 years and just bought 3 more for the grandchildren's bunkroom. I also turn them on there side and use them to store other things two together back to back and the top can be used as a table for the little ones!

Ikea and Wal=mart are both good places to buy bookcases.

the usual places answerers have listed but I find estate sales, assuming you are blessed to live in large towns/cities that have them- to be a great source (listed in newspapers so you can also chart hitting several if many in same area.) A good place to find quality items and my daughter lives in K.C.,Mo area and get's fabulous buys at great prices then when she updates later on, puts them in her garage sales or on eBay.

If you dont mind buying used, you should see if there is a craigslist in your area. Its an online garage sale type site, and I have bought many things off of it as well as sold many things too.
