....Dick, as another name for Richard, or dick, as another name for penis? If the name "Dick" came first (no pun intended), than who first decided to use it as a description for the male genital? If "dick" the genitals came first, than why on earth would anyone name their child "Dick"? Okay, I'm bored!!!

That's a very good question and I honestly have no idea what came first. I totally agree with you about naming your child Dick though.

I really wish I could help you... but I'm not entirely sure about the answer. I'm willing to bet that 'Dick' the name came first just because it is used so much in older literature and 'dick' the genital is not. As for what it means.... I don't know.... but fun fact, dork means a whale's penis and I have no idea why that would be used either! :)

Well in the sonogram the doctor saw a penis, the mother decided to name him Richard, When he got older they called him Dick.

Then in Cockney Rhyming slang, a Richard was a turd, as it rhymed with Richard the Third.
Now we have the wonderful rhyming slang James Blunt...
