Yes it was staged p[ropaganda and it looks like in the majority of cases it worked, which is not surprising as the jingo slingers and dogma peopel want so badly to show how right they are they do not think before they leap.
Saddam was captured for almost two weeks prvious to US phot ops.
He was ca[ptured by a Kurdish Spec ops group called PUK under the command of Qysrut Rasul Ali and the first reports were leaked to Al'Jazeera which also reported that the Kurds had a lot of elp by the Iranians in doing so.
the trouble is the US tried to photo op the story but by the time they got it out the real story had already circled the globe and the US shortly after announcing it had to quietly let it slip out of front page.
Stories by Kurdish Press, yes they had a press then and still do and the very same news story has been updated as of 01/08/07.Irnas story lwas out a full 10 days before US even began to take possession of Saddam. We got the Syndey Morning Herald, Haaretz ,Christian Scinece Monitor all with the same story line.Londons Suday Herald told it, everyone but the mind dumbed American popualce knew the story.
The leader of Iraq resistance said in interview that without irns intelligence Saddams capture would not of been possible.
te mere fact that the PUK leadder had vast contactsd with Iranian intellience all through the seven years amerians had helped Kurds drive out Iraqui trops in their no fly zone I guess is not enough evidence for americna peole.
the Sunday Express article said Saddam was held for two weeks until the Kurdish Leader bargained for more autonomy. teh Israeli special forces Intelligence group DEBKA ame out and said Saddam wss captured by Kurish troops with Iranian intel help.
the whole thng played out from sightings of Saddams wife near Tikrit and hen the capture of a man Omar al Muslit and his two brothers were the body guards and drivers. the Jordanian press reported Muslit had drugged Saddam but the Kurds sing won operations got to Saddam first.
Why? Becuse this omar guy ahd cntacted the US for the 25 million reward but the US had not acted upon it and he contated the Kurds.
The propaganda of US is top notch but it sure is nice that somewhere in the world the truth still comes out.
Yet!
Ten years from now someone on Yahoo will ask how Saddam slept in his spider hole?

Sadam Hussian slept very poorly after Desert Storm, well before the Gulf War.

In fact after Desert Storm he started moving about and never slept in the same place two nights in a row. He was worried that if the US found out where he was sleeping he would be assassinated by a cruise missile, and he was right (the US tried to do that to Qadifi in Libya).

Sadam knew the US could destroy him and his government easily. Even though they never tested the Republican Guard in Desert Storm the coalition forces, or just US forces could easily turn them into a smear on the ground.

Once his country fell then he had to have some major problems. After the US dropped a 500-pound bomb on a cafe just to kill his sons he had to be very worried. I bet after that point the sound of a jet flying overhead would probably have been enough to scare the heck out of him. The US had many air missions conducted over Iraq as a continuation of the “Shock and Awe” concept. This is why he looked so poor and like a wild animal after US troops found him. He also behaved like a gentleman with US forces because for the first time in a long time he was finally safe. As long as he was in custody of the US forces he knew the Shiites couldn’t reach him and the US is famous for its excellent treatment of prisoners of war.

I am equally sure that the thought of being executed like a common man gave him nightmares. He was confident going into his final trial and actually thought he would win. That feeling changed, and when his appeal was rejected so quickly he had to know his fate was sealed.

Sadam asked to be beheaded (a death reserved for nobility) or at least to be shot by a firing squad. The Shiites wouldn't even grant him that, they wanted him to feel as small and as powerless as possible; which they succeeded in doing. Look at his grave, a simple dirt grave in his hometown, just as if he never was the ruler of all of Iraq. His townsfolk had to pour concrete over his grave to prevent people (Shiites most likely) from digging up his body and doing degrading and savage things to it.

Oh, I thought you meant on a bunk bed. The question is rhetorical because no one except Saddam knows his mind. But on the hidey-hole subject, it seems strange to me that this all powerful despot had to hide in a hole in the ground. It's too weird, almost childish in a way. Can't quite put my finger on it.

I think beleive that the man who was hang was a Sadam look-alike.He probably got a good deal to sell out his country.I can't beleive that a man who was richer than the queen of England, just second in rakn after king Fadh of Saudi-arabia, could finish cough in a hole like a rat.

This is behond my logic

Curled up in the fetal position. This is a sign of insecurity and I am sure he had a lot to be insecure about at that point.

He wasn't found in a hole. What we saw on the news was staged propaganda.
