I want to elaborate my second question. I have seen a movie where they were transporting prisoners and all of them were blind folded. A female prisoner was being escorted to the restroom and one of the blind folded male prisoner said I smell a woman. That kind of confused me, she is a prisoner so she is not wearing a perfume so you can't say it's the perfume. Do women smell diffrent to you? I have a very strong sense of smell. so far I never noticed any difference.

Men and women do smell different. Having said that, don't believe everything you see in movies just because this one movie was correct in this specific instance.

In terms of intelligence, this is what I can remember from when I did psych at uni a few years ago. Remember, my memory could be faulty, or research could have overturned old convention.

The truth is somewhat more complicated than one sex being 'smarter'. In terms of averages, women are on average are slightly more intelligent than men (this is only by like 2ish IQ points). However, men's intelligence tends to vary more. This means that more men than women are 'geniuses' (conversely, this also means that more men are classified as below average).

Of course, even these statistics rely on the assumption that IQ correlates with intelligence. The arguments against this are just too numerous to go into. What I will say regarding this is that IQ test results correlate well with how successful an individual will be in a western-style school system.

I don't believe women are smarter than men, and I don't believe men are smarter than women. Women tend to get better grades in schools, but this is because schools (at least elementary and high schools) are more geared towards educating women. It used to be that schools were only for boys, and there was a much more active and hands- on approach to teaching. Since women's suffrage has emerged, schools have become more visual and auditory centric. This has helped the girls, but it also means the boys get slightly worse grades.
I believe the main reason why almost all the top scientists, mathematicians, programmers, physicists etc. are all men is because higher education is still geared towards men. Men simply have more opportunities to become experts in their fields because the upper crust of education is a male dominated society.

As for the smelling different, I can always tell the difference between a man and women by smell. I'm not sure if it is the pheromones or just the bathing habits of men vs. women, but I have never had trouble telling the difference.

It has been recently found out that, yes, men are smarter than woman. The higher up the genius scale goes the fewer and fewer woman show up, the exception being Paris Hilton. Duhhh....

The theory is that men have larger brains and thus more neurons, so it makes more sense they would be smarter. Reality, however, shows that it is true...... duhhh. Again, check out Paris Hilton.

For IQ, lets just say both are even, but we still want to be in control, you know, in case of emotional distraught!

As for the smell, woman have 3 orifices located in a central repository area. More odor thus could be generated per output area than say, ohh, men!

On the other hand, men do have more smelly noses. But, to satisy both parties, lets just say that men stink, but women smell, ok?

Men and women score equally on IQ tests. I think this a good indication that they are of equal intelligence.

I strongly suspect that men and women smell different, due to hormones and pheromones. Even individuals smell different: I can tell one person from another by smell alone, regardless of how recently they've bathed. (Then again, I have an abnormally strong sense of smell.)

To your first question, I think there is a unique balance of men and women-all things considered.
To your second question, both sexes exude pheromones. Purely sexual. However, they are not recognized by our noses; they are sensed and affect the brain.
As far as the prisoner-probably Hollywood's exaggerated (or not?) ability of either sex to sense and respond to the unseen/unsmelled presence of the opposite sex. The prisoner was probably keenly aware of what "smelling a woman" meant for him.

You obviously don't get out much, or don't have a lot of contact with Females, do You? Just stop for one minute and think, " Why would a Woman 'smell' different to a Man"? Any biological reasons spring to mind?

Sweat contains pheromones. Just like us foot fetishist get turned on by female foot odor you are probably smelling the male equivalent of pheromones. There's nothing wrong with you, it's pretty normal so don't worry :)

controversial. i cant really answer the first, i think some men are smart-some arent, some women are smart-some arent. and the smell thing, i think its true, but itd take a really good nose to pick it up. movies are usually never completely true, so they probabky just emphasised on that to make it interesting. i havent noticed if women smell different to men, but im sure they do. but not in a yuck way!

I think the smell comes from using shampoo and body scrubs. My theory is that the sent from the shampoo stays in the hair longer because women tend to have longer hair. As for the smarter part, the average woman tends to be smarter than the average man, but if you look at some of the smartest minds of our generation, they tend to be male. If you were to look at it on a sort of bell curve, then I think the male bell curve would be steeper than the female.

in this movie he said it as a remark of desperation for a object or a want....

what he meant was... he's been so lonely for a female... so bad so he can smell one a mile away..

it's a saying... such as.. "i want power so bad i can almost taste it"

like that.

it actually has nothing to do with actual taste or smell.. it's more a desire.. a feeling... lust is what is happening here.
