It depends on your mode of travelling and when you plan to travel. The Woodlands checkpoint is always having a perpetual traffic jam especially during peak hours or weekends.

The best bet is to stay at Hotel 81 or budget hotels in Singapore and tour Singapore from there. Hotel prices ranges from SGD 60 - 130++ for those budget hotels.

If you still want to choose to stay in JB, consider the time wasted for travelling, your travel fares be it taxi / public bus and the hassle of going thru immigration. It may just add up to the same amount. JB is reputed to have a high crime rate, so it is a little dangerous to travel back there at night especially if you're a tourist and do not know your way around.

Hope this helps. cheers! :)

actually, there are some cheap hotel anging around S$50 to 80. . . some are within the business district. . . You may try Hotel 81, and some of those badget hotel.

But if you want to travel to JB, either via train (mrt) to Kranji then take a bus in to JB, or take a taxi from . . .err. . . .there is a JB taxi behind Sim lim. . . . just cannot remember the name at a moment.

Anyway, malaysia good hotel is not very cheap. Those cheap one are not very clean and safe. . . so, for a day trip to JB is fine. . . but to stay there and travel to singapore is not worth the stress.

Enjoy the holiday

The customs procedures and distant in travelling would render your idea not practical... just stay in s'pore.

Other than the Zoo, most of the tourist spots were in the southern part of the island, with some in the east and west.

There's plenty of good budget hotels in SG and going around anywhere in s'pore is relatively so much safer, even at night.

Alamak got it there right, its safer here than around a budget hotel in JB and the immigration hassle got worse after 9/11.

a car would be the fastest but the border crossing can take a long time during rush hours. I would stay in Singapore.
