Because crystals are commonly found in nature, threre's no record of the first time man "found" a crystal. Even hominids may have picked up a crystal unknowingly and used it for a tool. However, the first man who understood the crystallographic structure of certain minerals was Just Hauy (1743-1833), who examined the broken pieces of a specimen of calcareous spar.

in my backyard. haha. i'm not really sure what you are talking about. crystals have been on earth longer than Man has been. so i believe the first crystal found was by the first Man on earth. they just didn't call them crystals then. maybe they used them as massage wards or something or use them as cheap gifts. dont think they were making watches yet though.
