Definitely not. The entire government is dysfunctional and needs to be completely just erased and reorganized.

If Congress does pass a law increasing the minimum wage, will any of you attribute that act to the influence of lobbyists?

Members of Congress do not have an institutional obligation to consult an opinion poll before the draft legislation or vote on it. As was said over 230 years ago by Edmunde Burke, a represenatitive owes to his constituents his judgment, not a loyalty to their opinions. Burke said that if a representative subjugates his own opinions to those of his constituents, then he is not doing his job right.

So the concept of representation does not mean automatically doing whatever the public wants. The concept of representation is that we voters have a tendancy to elect people who think like we ourselves do -- we elect people who share our values. But once elected, we should trust that our representatives are excersizing good judgment. We should not be looking at whether they are making laws exactly the way we want them to -- according to opinion polls.

No, Since the repeal of the 10th Amendment the American Voters have not been properly represented by either house of Congress. They use your money to pay off voters. They use your public land to pay off political debts. The tax code is used to benefit themselves as well as their "political friends." They cheat, lie and steal and who knows what other crimes that are committing to benefit their power hungry appetite. So no we have not been represented for some time now.

My opinion is NO! They represent whatever special interest groups they favor. They make decisions based on how they will get re-elected. They need those donations from the groups the lobbiests represent, the voters be damned.

Big Giovernment has grown so large, it can't possibly identify with the average voter and does not represent their real wishes.

Change can only happen with big money and lobby groups, is this representative of the average American?

Usually, no, but there again, when was the last time you wrote to your Senator or Congressman. That is what the issue of lobbyists is all about. These men and women do try to do what they think is best, but if the people will not tell them about what is on their mind, then they will listen to the SIG's who want them to do things that will benefit their cause. Blame yourself for bad things in government because there is no letter from you, your friends or anyone else on their desk.

Congressional representatives can do almost nothing of themselves. They act in corporate body, each one pretending to represent a group; but have voice only as a group representing nobody but themselves. They are not corporately responsible to anyone, not even those who elect them.

That's what they are hired to do. But power goes to their heads real fast when they get to Washington, meet and play with the lobbyists and get and seek attention from the media for the folks back home....to look good. All they really do otherwise is give themselves pay raises.
