I worked a temp job in NYC after moving to NY; however, I found the job on craigslist, not a staffing agency (it was a 1-month long temp job). After that gig was up, I started looking for a permenent position. I've had tons of interviews and have even interviewed at staffing agencies and temp agencies, but the agencies seem to be a waste of time because I NEVER get even a bite from these people, yet I don't understand why. I have a college education, I'm not fugly (I'm normal looking), I have a great sense of humor in person, am confident, speak well, and have great computer skills (for the temp jobs, I usually just go for anything related to computers or data entry). The interviews with the staffing agencies usually don't seem to go bad... the person is usually smiling and laughing at my jokes (I don't tell 'jokes' persay, but you catch my drift... I'm just easy to get along with). Anyhoot, with all I have to offer, why don't staffing agencies ever work for me?

Fix:

Permenent... Permanent (sorry, didn't proofread prior to posting).

I appreciate the responses thus far, but I cannot move again. I already made the huge move from Oklahoma to New York this summer and I can't just leave what I have here (mainly my cat and boyfriend. lol). I'm not bothering with staffing agencies anymore, but I just always wondered why I could never get a job through one yet people around here talk about how "great" they are.

Then, I wonder how some people I interview with even got a job. For example, I interviewed earlier today for some customer service position (didn't sound too exciting, but the pay was good). The guy interviewing me had to be around 25, didn't even know what I was interviewing for, asked no questions, and was unprepared and seemed ignorant. No offense, but i wonder what d*ck he sucked to get hired.

I gave up on recruiting agencies but some people swear by them. I just try to filter them out when looking for a job. Since graduation I found one job through posting my resume on monster, one through word of mouth, two interviews from craigslist. (I too moved to a larger city after graduating)

I think they often already have a candidate to submit or have filled the job but like to keep collecting candidates.

Have you ever considered moving to another place? I know its a big change but that might be the best thing to do. If not, try something new instead of computers or data entry. I know its hard to start something new, but it just might be the best thing. Try finding an employeer that is willing to train someone new that is willing to learn. Im sure you are willing to learn, so that could help in finding something new. Staffing agencies are not the best place to find a job, because they don't seem to interested only because they usually have alot of people they have to help find a job for. I would say it is a better help, but they are sometimes no good. Do you ever put your resume on Careerbuilder or Monster.com? That is also a great way to get your experience out to employers that might not work with temp/staffing agencies. I am in the same posistion as you are and I have still not found what I am looking for. I had to move because of it. I wish the best of luck for you. :)

Wait until you have 30 years of experience...... then it's REALLY frustrating.
