It is not entirely possible to answer your question with a definite NO; but I will not go further to say it is also entirely to answer your question with a definite YES. As each individual has his/her own unique physiology and physiological responses to stimuli, which in this case is dreams, it is not easy to come up with a universal generalization that would apply to every individual.
Suffice it to say that the brain cannot distinguish mental stimuli from the physical stimuli; in other words, what you call mental stimuli or physical stimuli may be the same thing, which is just expressed in two different terms like morning star or evening star to refer to Venus.
The point is that when you are in the state of dream, you can still experience basic 1 or more of 5 human senses. That is to say that you can see, smell, taste, touch and hear even in the state of the dream. What is different in the state of the dream is that the object of your senses is not present. For instance, if you see a friend in your dream, that does not mean that your friend is physically lying next to you or anything; but you still see your friend. Similar thing can be said; for instance, if you get stubbed in the dream, you can feel the pain; but that does not mean you are actually being stubbed with a knife or something. (unless you want to say that there is an evil person really stubbing you). All of these are experienced physically in the state of dream as the stimuli.
When there is a stimulus, there is a response to it. To put it differently, your body can respond to your own dream. Your hear rate can go up; your respiration rate can increase...etc., and all sort of responses can be possible.
When there is a powerful stimulation, such as an extreme pain, your body can go into a shock and you can die. That happens in a real life outside the dream. (just go to ER to see it) The issue is if that sort of a situation be simulated in the dream. Perhaps it is entirely possible to die in reality when you die in dreams; but such a case should be distinguished from a case in which you just visually depict dying. (I will let psychologists take care of those things)
Brain is indeed filled with lots of mysteries. We know what this chemical or that chemical within a brain does and how each part reacts under this or that condition; but we do not yet know how a brain as a whole functions. Who knows? If your brain dies whether it is due to the reality or to the dream, your brian dies.

There are two states of mind i.e. conscious and subconscious. Conscious is active and responds to external forces while the subconscious mind only absorbs and does not react. While sleeping our mind is subconscious and dreams are nothing but a regeneration and integration of unrelated and scattered pieces of memory. When we see something in our dream it does not have a reactive effect on the body as the mind is subconscious.
So when you see yourself dying in your dreams it could be a mere combination of memories of someone dying and yourself. So you do not die in reality if you die in your dreams.
I have myself seen dreams of dying (falling from a tall building, truck running over me, relatives crying after I die etc.) but the fact is that I am alive and answering your question.

If you die in your dreams, you put to rest old thought patterns fears, habits, or other significant 'waking realities'. Our dreams are expressions of our suppressed thoughts. Only the person dreaming knows what the images, meanings, and archetypes connected to their 'dream death' scenario mean.

No, I've died and been killed many times in my dreams, one thing I've found to get away from a really bad nightmare is to "kill yourself" in your dream, than you go to a different dream.... well unless you're in a zombie dream setting than you'll just come back as a zombie. I'm not depressive or suicidal, I just got tired one dream of being afraid of the dream (I was on a really tall building) and said "screw it" and flung myself off, before I hit the ground, I went into a different dream.

If you die while dreaming, dead is dead. But if you merely die in your dream it only tells you something about anxiety - or something else, which you have to work out for yourself. Like - do you want to run away? Do you want to be punished? and so on. Dreams are personal self-mails with their real subject disguised because it's usually something you don't want to confront.

Here's a better question: If you ever dream of winning the lotto, do you win it in real life?
I sure could use some tips on how to remember the numbers without waking up.

I've never heard of a person who actually kept experiencing themselves in the dream after dying within it. Usually they wake up right afterwards, or dream something anew.

Nope! I've done it and so has my son. The way I explained it to him is that it means a part of you dies...like your childhood. I figured that because he's a teenager, and about the same age I was when I had the dreams.

actually, i have never died in my dreams. often, i am half dead whenever a creature attacks me, then i wake up. i don't think so, because it is just your subconscious mind. and i think there would be a small possibility you would die in your dreams because your mind won't let you die, unless you unconsciously want to die.
