It's the left but really you don't hear much about that anymore. There is no rule that says you can only pierce this ear if your gay or that ear if your strait, people just pierce what they want. However it is more common now days for guys to have both ears pierced rather than just one.
Just make sure you take him to a professional to have him pierced. Don't go to the little shops in the mall or any place that uses a piercing gun. Also about his age, personally I don't think 13 is too young, as long as he is responsible enough to take care of his new piercing properly and clean it regularly.

I really have 3 boys and all 3 of them chosen to have their ear pierced at the same time as they were 4 or 5 years previous because their dad had his ear pierced. 2 of them stopped wearing their ear ring at about 11 or 12 years previous, one now having a lip piercing somewhat. the different son is 14, nonetheless has his ear piercing and has an eyebrow piercing to boot. My boys are intense achievers and performance tremendous behaviour. A piercing would not replace your recommendations-set or what type of human being you're. it is basically a fashion of expressing your individuality.

Forget the neigh sayers. I had mine done at Fourteen. As far as which side is the Straight side, its the left. Although dont get bummed out if he wants or will want both done. Go to an actual Piercing and tattoo shop. make sure to ask the questions. be curious, you may walkout with something yourself.

There is no gay or straight side any more. That's as outdated as women not being allowed to wear pants.
Only the ignorant will tease about which side is which. Realize, of course, in school there is an abundance of ignorance and lots of people proud to show theirs to the world.
If he's ok about dealing with the uninformed and the misinformed and their comments then let 'er rip...
My personal opinion is to get both for the sake of symmetry and avoiding the retarded notion of the 'proper' side to have pierced.

These days it really doesn't matter. Lots of guys have both done. Besides it takes more than the wrong ear being pierced to make someone gay.

you know what, does it really matter?? i really don't think anyone can judge your son's sexuality by what ear he has pierced. as long as he likes it, that's all that's important.
i love boys with piercings & i couldn't care less if "real men don't wear earrings". [whoever answered with that]

don't pierce a 13 year old boys ear! let him do it himself when he's 18 if he still wants to. the hole will close if he changes his mind later, but it will leave a scar!
