Tadka is a process used for flavoring certain dishes. To temper a dish, oil is heated and spices added to it and fried. This spice flavoured oil is then added to the dish as a final touch. One example of a dish that is given a tadka is Lehsuni Daal (garlic flavoured lentils).

Tadka is the north Indian style of garnishing curries with fried onions and garlic. Most often, the onions and garlic are cut into small pieces and fried in oil till golden brown and then added to ready Dal which gives it the name Dal Tadka, often abbreviated to Tadka.

it id definately a north indian style but not necessary wit onion n garlic...tadka is 2 or 3 tbspn of oil witn little of mustard of jeera n little of asofepida (known as hing in hindi)
