The only difference between the versions is the covers.

While the Children's, Young Adult's, and Adult's editions are all identical, there are differences between the American and English versions of each; Some minor editting, changed words, and the like.

bewtween the children and adult versions, only the cover illustrations are different. the adult versions showing a less cartoony cover so they could be read on the train without embarrassment.

now the difference in wording is a british or american thing. the british versions contain a lot of slang and english specific grammar. the text was "americanized". for example, jumper became sweater, crisps became chips and the best known example, philosophers stone became something entirely made up (sigh). american publishers didn't think american children would understand some british terms.

the canadian editions are exact copies of the british.

Didn't know different versions existed. Always read the original versions of anything - not the Disneyfied or Bowdlerised ones. If Americans can't understand the English language, they'll just have to grow their minds and learn. After all the rest of the world has had to learn American!

I always wondered about this with other books, but when I compared the two different versions in the store by the first page of each chapter, it appears to be the same text.

I would guess that they simply up a different jacket to sell the same book in different markets.

Children's versions have some british "semi-swear" words replaced and some of the more tense situations (especially in the later books) are toned down. In turn they are shorter.

There is not much of a difference though. The artwork is different too.

the adaptation is the binding, the picture at the front conceal is distinct. The deluxe version has gold and complete web page images on the starting up of each and every financial ruin alongside with a the front conceal image and color replace. there is not any sex scene, basically wishful questioning on the component to the better "twisted" followers....

the adult version has chuck norris in it. his round-house kicks to the face are too graphic for the kids.
