I know we are generally told that the smartest thing to do is just delete and not reply, but that is so boring and provides no satisfaction!

I use a little program called MAILWASHER. It actually "bounces" a note back to the person that sent it saying that your email address doesn't exist. And if it CAN'T find the sender's info, it "bounces" a note back to their ISP which, if they get enough returned mail to process, just MAY wind up increasing the cost of their service to the spammer.
I believe there is still a free version online for those with only 1 email address to "protect". The premium version will support unlimited email addresses.
Needless to say...I hate spammers just as much as you do.
Good luck.

I usually leave them a funny message or try to be sarcastic. Or you could pretend to be their mom. "Sweetie, I told you to stop emailing people about viagra! How many times do I have to tell you?" You know, stuff like that.

There is nothing you can do, ANYTHING you do just shows that spammer that you read their email. Ignore it, dump it, don't read it.
