My doctor said I can take a stool softener but didn't mention anything about a laxative. I didn't ask because I wasn't having trouble in the hospital. Now that I'm home I'm constipated. I gave birth on Sunday and haven't gone since Sunday morning. Things are gettin pretty painful! Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

First -- lots of water; high fiber food; Citracil (a natural fiber drink). These things won't hurt you.
But if it's been that long, a whole week, you probably do need a laxative.
BUT, when it comes to medications, you should call your doctor or midwife, not ask people on line.
How do you know whether we know what we are talking about?

There must be a reason why the dog hasn't had a bowel movement in four days. The dog could have an obstruction and should really be checked out by a Vet. This is way too long for a dog to be constipated. You could try adding some raw vegetables to the dog's diet. This might do the trick. I definitely don't think ex-lax is the answer. It isn't really safe to give dogs medicines for humans. Check the dog's diet. There may not be enough oil in the food for instance. I personally think, without knowing the full circumstances, that there could be an obstruction, e.g. a large piece of bone or something else it has swallowed which is preventing the food from passing into the lower intestines. Please get your Mother to have the dog looked at by a Vet.

Old school talking: Best advice I can shout out is don"t take anything by mouth that you don't want your baby to injest!! How about an adult size glycerin suppository?
Works great no wait.

I'm pretty sure it's a bad idea. Try lots of fluid and Colace, you can get it at the pharmacy.
