I'm totally burnt out on my teaching career. I've been a teacher for 12 years and I really don't think I can take it anymore. I have a really good business sense but because my degree is in education, I don't know what to look for that would be in the same pay range ($56,000 yearly). I barely make peanuts now, so I can't take a pay cut. Any ideas?

Go back for your Phd and make the big bucks. 12 Years is a great foundation.

From your ID, I am guessing you are a single mom. However, one thing you might consider is becoming an officer in the US Army. If you're a single mom, this might not be for you. But you will get paid well (better than your teaching job), you will have a chance to travel (not just to Iraq!), you will have great leadership experiences and will be very marketable in a variety of occupations after you leave the service.

Other than that, I would think about finding a job in something that you have a passion for. Don't limit yourself by trying to be realistic- think about what you want to spend the next 20-30 years doing, because job fulfillment is a big part of happiness. If you could be doing anything right now, what would it be? Pursue that answer.

It's kind of hard to answer this question without knowing what your interests are. That said, I would recommend you take the Myers Briggs personality and strong interest tests. They aren't free and are offered at all sorts of places, but you will probably get the most out of the test (and your money) if you take it through a community college or university.

I'm in a transition phase myself, pursuing a career in business. I took both tests this semester and doing so was one of the best decisions I've made. The results were very reaffirming and helped me realize that what I've chosen to do with the rest my life isn't a "pipe dream".

I hope you find something great! Good luck!

Well, off your question, I wanted to say ice cream vendor, but that would be a pay cut. It really depends on what else you're interested in. If you're burned out on teaching and you're degree is in education, then you may need to leave the career and degree behind to start on something else. A "cool" job for you depends on your personal interests, not mine.

Talk to your employer about taking a different job, go to another level like highschool, college, grade school. Try bartending on the side. Hey if you are good and work at the right place you make bank. Since its mostly a night job its extra income.

Find a product to sell and start a website. That seems to be the direction to go nowadays. Good Luck.

if you like to cook you could be a chef. you could go to culinary school. I was gonna be a teacher but changed my mind. so now i am deciding to go into culinary. I am not sure how much they make but you just got to decide what you like to do and go for it.
