All genes are either recessive or dominant. Brown eyes are dominant. Blues and green eyes are recessive. If one parent contributes a dominant gene for brown eyes and the other a reccessive gene for blue eyes than the offspring will most likely have brown eyes.

If both parents contribute recessive genes for blue eyes then they are likely to have blue eyed offspring.

But keep in mind genetics are random by nature. Humans are not genetically engineered tomato's. No one is controlling who we mate with like tomato's in a lab. So nothing is etched in stone. That is why you may be the only one in your family with blues eyes,

The brown pigment is dominant to the blue pigment. Green irises are actually blue with inclusions of (yellow) cholesterol.
