My mom came from a family of 12 kids and my dad a family of 8. I come from a family of 5 kids. What is "big" in today's society?

It truly depends where in the country (or the world) you are asking about big families. In the "Red" states (Republican country) of the U.S., families are bigger. Repubs seem to want larger families more often. In the "Blue" states (Democrat country) of the U.S., families are smaller. Dems like smaller families. In northern European countries, particularly Scandinavia, families are quite often two adults and one child or just two adults. Animals companions are often seen in northern Europe as children. In many Third World countries, families are larger.

So, in essence, it depends in which part of the world and in which society one would consider the "family" unit.

probably 4. there was 18 in my family. 4sets of twins. all together there were 10 boys and 8 girls.
