Ok ladies, when you are on your period, and you have to go pee, do you ALWAYS REMOVE YOUR TAMPON before you pee, or just pee with the tampon in, because as you have probably experienced, if you DON'T remove the tampon, it tends to SOAK UP the urine, potentially causing a health hazard to you if it's not removed. Seriously-Should you ALWAYS remove a tampon before urinating? Is it a danger not to? (personally- I ALWAYS DO...)

If your tampon is low enough in your vagina to be soaking up urine when you urinate it is not inserted properly. It should be high enough in your vagina that the urine flow should not be able to reach it. Try inserting the tampon higher into your vagina and this shouldn't be a problem. As far as the string is concerned, just move it out of the way of the flow of urine.

It does soak up the string and then travel up to the tampon!! I change mine every time I pee! There are times that I have been in a place that I have not had a tampon and could not change it! In this case I would literally lean forward when I pee so that the stream will not be near that area!

I never have removed mine and I've also never had a problem. Depending on what I'm drinking I could be peeing every 5 minutes (such as with beer or water) and that's just not practical. And any reference to tampons I've ever seen has said to change them at least every 8 hours and hasn't referenced urine soaking into the string. In fact, I've heard that urine is sterile (via Oprah/Dr. Oz) so it doesn't seem like urine could hurt you.

If your getting pee on your tampon, you can`t be inserting it far enough. It can be possible for pee to travel up the tampon string to get to your tampon, but this would only be a very small amount of pee. A usefull tip is to tuck the string inside you, so you don`t pee on the string. I`ve never removed a tampon to pee. If I did, I`d be speding a fortune on them, as I`m forever needing to pee!!!

I never remove my tampon to pee, and I've never had a medical problem because of it. I do try to make sure the string is out of the way though, and not hanging right in the stream of pee.

No, you don't need to take out the tampon. You really shouldn't (it's a waist of a tampon if you do).
Actually, I stick the tampon string in my vagina once I get the tampon in ( and the blood around the inner edge of my vagina is off). It helps a lot since by the time I do take the tampon out the string isn't dirty.

okay, there are TWO holes down there not just one you have the vagina and the urethra which is between the clitoris and the vaginal opening. the only way the tampon is getting soaked is if it is not inserted properly... and removing it everytime you have to go pee is not only wasting expensive product... it hurts after a while! when I first had my period I tried tampons and I could never seem to insert it properly so I just stick to pads.

If you tampon soaks up any pee it wouldn't do you any harm. however depending on how often you go to the toilet you have to change your tampon about every 4-6 hours anyway so it might as well be when you are going to toilet!

IF...and that's a big "IF"...somehow some urine made it's way up the string into your vagina where the tampon is supposed to be, it wouldn't cause any health problems anyways as urine is actually sterile.

Sometimes if I am not bleeding the hard the tampon with be fine, however you must remember that the urine is not coming out of your vagina it is coming out of your urethra and is probably just splashing near your vagina, but if you do not feel it slipping out then do not worry about it--I only change it if it falls out or gets wet which does not happen all the time
