I'd tell him his musical tastes are one-dimensional and therefore boring. There's a lot more to music than shredding. Learn to appreciate all styles.

It, honestly, takes all kinds of people to make up a world !!!
Some people have no taste in music at all
Others have an extremely limited view or as THEY would say --a very defined taste in music !!
But, to have such limited acceptance of all the types that are out there and the sounds that are SO unique and emotionally moving to hear---is to actually limit ones self to a much smaller world than they COULD BE enjoying !!!
It's a little like the food thing---with all the various flavors and types of food available for an individual to enjoy---why would anyone be only interested in and limited to a diet of say---only cheeseburgers ?? Well to simply have one and one type only in a person's music library is (to me) the exact same thing !!!
Might as well save your breath on this one though---when it comes to such people ---they are convinced and sold completely on the idea that it is they who are the ones that are "on to something " here and the rest of the world is simply nuts or freaks for not seeing it the same way as they do !!!!

Well there is nothing you can really tell him. He has his own taste for music and you cant really change it. My husband used to hate Evanescence (he is a metal guy, like As I Lay Dying and those harder screamo bands). He went to a concert with me to see them and he walked out loving them.

he's too close-minded. he needs to broaden his horizons. i use to be like that. now i like blues, jazz, and classical music. any band can play fast technical stuff. it takes real musicians to write songs with soul. just because it's fast doesn't necessarily make it good

Why do you feel the need to tell him anything? He can listen to what he wants. :-)
