Why do ipod cords tangle so easily?

Its not ipod cords only. Any cords, left alone have a tendency of getting entagled in a manner so that it taken half an hour to make them straight. Particularly so, when there are multiple cords in the vicinity all of them would entangle with each other making it all the more difficult. We say, cords have life and they have a tendency to entangle as they just want to trouble us.
No scientific explanations for this.
