my baby will start off his bottle normally (he is a guts) and drink quite contently but after about a quarter of the bottle he gets upset and thrashes his arms and legs around and screams. I burp him at every ounce and he burps well. I dont know what the problem is?? The only way i can get him to eat is to walk around wth him and jiggle him while he is drinking. He is 1 month and 1 week old. he likes to drink fast and i have him on avent colic bottles at a stage one teat.

My first daughter did this at about this age. Very distressing. it got to the point that she fully refused bottles for over 24 hrs and I took her to the Dr, she screamed and thashed was arching her back. Turned out she had reflux. We used the reflux formula, and she had to have a dose of Milanta before each feed. Thankfully didn't require any further medical intervention. All the Dr's and nurses assured me that Milanta cannot hurt them, she had about 3ml before each feed. If she got cranky after I gav her more. Think of the worst heartburn from your pregnancy in that little buba. I'd go to a dr and insist they listen and you're not being an over reacting mum.
Also don't feel bad that you didn't breastfeed, I didn't from birth with all mine and they are all healthy and thriving and above average in their developmental milestones. This too will pass

Could be a number of factors. Could be that the formula doesn't settle well in your baby's tummy. Maybe switching formula brands would help. Another cause could be gas from swallowing too much air. The avent bottles are nice but don't stop 100% of the air. Burping doesn't always help either. Sometimes there are gas bubbles that just don't go away with burping. My son used anti-gas drops before feedings to soothe his tummy and it did help quite a bit. You can find them in the baby feeding aisle usually, or the medicine aisle where other gas medicines are.
If your baby is not eating enough, you should contact your baby's doctor right away and see what they reccomend. You want to make sure that your baby is putting on weight.
You should keep a daily journal of feedings. What time baby was fed, how much baby drank, etc etc. This will help your doctor out as well.

Try Dr Browns bottles they work 10 times better than avent. Also you can try infant gas drops like Little Tummies or Mylacon and they really help. I used both with my daughter and they really made a difference.

I would guess he's getting gas, mylacan (sp)?drops will help, ask at the drug store, I also used the Playtex bottles with the bags you can squeeze all the air out and it'll make em suck slower. Good luck. Can you join a mommy baby group?

i prefer the Playtex nursers and there more sanitary for the new baby's . and if the baby is getting a few ounces each feeding that better than none at all of coarse oh and the Playtex gives them less air . i found this stuff called (gripe water) my pediatrician recommend it to me and it seems to work wonders on the colic its really made up of mostly chamomile tea but its a god send in my opinion it is sold at Kroger's and be patient and don't get to excited the baby will eat but i do recommend you talk to your doc and see what she says .

If the baby is drinking to fast he may feel full faster and he may not want anymore for a while. If he gets a lot of air he may not want to drink either. Let him rest for ten minutes or so and try again. Don't force him to eat if he doesn't want it. He'll eat when he's ready.

How much are you feeding him?He is very tiny so probably he feels satisfied with just a little bit. Some formulas are very gross maybe he doesn't like it, I really like INFAMIL LIPIL formula it doesn't taste gross and it doesn't seem so greasy, I know it is more expensive compare to others but I noticed the spoon is smaller to so you don't use as much, you can also call them and they will send you coupons, breastfeeding is by far the best, if you have milk do it.

he probably doesn't like the formula try to get a breast pump and feed him breast milk, i don't want to be gross but it tastes a lot better than formula and he needs it more, his immune system is not strong enough for him to fight off any viruses in the air your milk has the immunities the he needs to fight off all that stuff, formula doesn't have that it gives him all the vitamins he needs but not that and Id rather have a healthy baby than a strong one. and if you eat fruits and veggies he'll get the vitamins from you and he'll be in perfect health. try it.......

I wish you would have breast fed if you are physically able, then this probably wouldn't be happening.
However, I'm sorry your baby is having stomach trouble. He's probably allergic to cow's milk. You will need to get soy-based formula--or try breastfeeding again. You can rent a hospital grade pump and bring your milk back in.
