u may have installed programs which occupy a lot of your memory space....and cuz of this the more memory space u use the slower the performance of ur pc gets....go to the control panel> add or remove programs> remove stuff that u dont want > be sure not to remove any of the system applications.....u can also try to go to run > then type "msconfig" and remove the applications in the tab "startup" which u don't want to start....hope this helps!

There are a few reasons for this.

- There are an excess of programs running in the background that are launched on startup. Get a startup cleaner.

- Your registry is filled with redundant or dead entries. Clean your registry with a registry cleaner.

- Your computer is overheating due to lint and dust in the chassis thats packed into the CPU fan and caked in the heatsink rendering it useless. Open your computer and use a can of compressed air to get the dust bunnies out. Or get it professionally serviced.

And remember antivirus software checks every byte of data before its processed by the system making your hard disks work at half their effective speed.

Check out what program which will be running at the startup.
Go to Start menu, Run, type msconfig and press Enter, at the Startup tab, uncheck the program which you are sure not to load it when you starting up your PC.

Also the antivirus software is not a software to make your PC faster but it just to protect your PC from virus. Norton antivirus is the best choice for me but its quite heavy and will make your PC slower.

Upgrade you RAM, 512 will do. Upper is better.

Change your processor. AMD Athlon will make it better than Pentium 4.

Even though you installed antivirus there still could be some virus's in your computer that need to be removed. Deleting them doesn't always work, and some times a pro computer person may need to do that.

Your inter net provider is a slow one. Switch to Comcast or Verizon Fios and it will run a lot faster. You may also need to Defrag your computer at least 4 times. And then do it at least twice a week.

You might need to free up some space on your hard drive. If for example you have an 80 GB harddrive you might want to always keep 15 -20 GBs free. Also you might want to increase your virtual memory. That helped my computer

Often Spyware can be downloaded to your computer without your knowledge. This can definitely slow down your computer. Miscrosoft offers a free anti-spyware program that you can download off of their website for free. Just go to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en

You probably have hoards of programs all running at the same time. The holier-than-thou will taunt you for being dumb enough to allow such a heinous situation to exist but I can tell you, new ones move in as fast as you can cull them. Its one off the curses of using Windows. Good luck!

If it is a 20 year old WANG computer, that could be the reason. if it is the Dell, top-of-the-line that you just had delieveredin the last month, this is quite the mystery. Seems we need to know just a bit more about the computer....

Thats great that you have installed anti-virus. Make sure you have upgraded it, and than run a full scan. Also, you might want to get an spyware program, and scan your computer.
