I have a 3'x18"x18" tank and I was wondering what kind of intermediate to advanced reptile I can put in it either temporarily while it is young or for life.

I have already had a uromastyx and a ball python I used to have water dragons in the cage and still own them. I have an Iguana still. I have a couple of monitors already but I wouldn't mind getting another one the others that I mentioned I would wrather not get another. I may have messed up on the dimensions. it is 3' tall and 18'' deep and 18" wide.

No geckos they are really boring in my opinion and I have already had geckos including leopard, tokays, and crested geckos.

Try a Uromastyx. They are similar to Bearded dragons. They're interesting desert and very bizarre looking. You can only keep one at a time though, they're not social. Bearded dragons can also be happy in a cage that size, again, probably just one though. You could also start a Chinese Water Dragon or baby monitor lizard in a cage that size, although both would need a larger cage later on.

Not necessarily advanced but you could house a small group of any of the rhaodactylus groups of geckos. This includes crested gecks but also other more unusual ones like the chahoua which have really nice camoflage. Have you considered breeding? This is my next step as I would like to advance with the hobby but not necessarily with more advanced animals. Cresties and some of the rhac group are relatively easy to breed.

A good page for crested geckos is:

A good page for rhacs in general is:

Hope that helps. I know how frustrating 'empty tank syndrome' can be lol.

Crested geckos are nice and could live in that size cage for quite some time. They are very cute and stick to the walls with suction cups on their toes and tails. They run about $40-$60 for a male more for a female.Get them while they are young and sometimes you'll get a female juvenile for the male price.
