Anywhere far away from cities, lights and pollution. Usually mountains are good. I think I heard that Death Valley has a nice view.

As long as you go far enough away from city lights, you should be able to see the stars!
Very few cities and towns have no-uplight laws for billboards and roadsigns, unfortunately. All the lights from cars, signs, houses and streetlamps make it impossible to see anything but the moon sometimes. The same is true in rural areas because of farm lighting and the afterglow from nearby towns.
Get on the road and travel about 50 miles from town, far from billboards and farm lighting. Find a place where you can see a good deal of the horizon. That's your best bet for seeing a lot of stars.

Actuallly up in northern AZ near Flagstaff the star gazing is VERY good. That is where the Lowell Observatory is, it is the one that Pluto was discovered from and the viewing is still really good up there. Flagstaff elevations are from 6000- 12000 feet depending how far up the mountains you go. Anything above like 7000 feet the air quality is great in that area.

Are we speaking about start in the nightime sky or stars as in celebrities?
If you want the nighttime sky, anywhere in the mountains or desert were there are no city lights to block out your vision. The mountians are probably a little better as long as you find a clearing without any trees to obstruct.
If you are talking about celebrities, go to Universal Studios in Hollywood, CA.

My experience has been on the flight-deck's of the aircraft carrier's USS Kitty Hawk & USS Abraham Lincoln in the South Pacific. ;-) But yes, like the other people stated, in the desert or the mountains; away from city pollution.
