I've bought every brand of Air Freshener out there and even the ones that say they will last for hours seem to go away within a few minutes. I keep my house clean, but I have children and pets, so I need all the help I can get!

I just wanted to add that the reason I was wondering is because whenever I go to visit my mother, I walk in her house and it smells soooo good. Of course she is older with no kids or pets and her house is immaculate. when I ask her what she uses to make it smell so good, she says "nothing." So although my house is usually basically clean and there is not any bad odor.....I was looking for that "Wow" effect. I thought maybe there was some new great product I wasnt aware of!

The febreeze noticiables work nice, my hubby just got me this thing that you put a 22 oz candle in it and it warms the whole candle without a flame and it works awesome. Also you get used to your smell in your house so it disappears really fast. You will always notice somebody Else's smell.

Get the return air filters that are white, with the accordion folds. Start with a MERV 7 or 8. DuPont makes one that sells at Wal-Mart for about $4. Follow the instructions and use the Date sticker for reminder to replace it.
Check it at the end of the first week. You may be suprised at all the lint and dust it will accumulate. I have had two dogs, a cat and two cigarette smokers in the house, and always changed mine weekly. For less than $20 a month it is worth it. Also, if you have carpeted floors, try to vacuum more often. You may want to use Arm & Hammer powers sprinkled on carpets, (if you have carpets), just follow the directions on the box. Good Luck...

Try a good potpouri in a bowl near the biggest problem areas and near your entry (it's always nice if the house smells good right when you walk in). Plug-ins are very good, if you can find a scent you like. If you want something you can spray in the air when you feel like it try Ozium, I have no idea what is in it but it seems to be able to neutralize any odor especially organic ones. It's usually sold in the auto area if you don't see it with the other air fresheners in your grocery store.

Ok, you might laugh at this but I also have kids and pets (3 large breed dogs) and a hamster; I put small bowls of vinegar in hidden places throughout the house. It is really cheap, And it really works. I can tell when one of the bowls has evaporated!! I swear by it. The other thing, make sure that your return filter for your heat & air conditioner is changed regularly. I use the one's that are supposed to last for months....I change it every 4 weeks. I used everything from candles, to febreeze, to air neutralizer sprays, I swear by the vinegar. And, you can put it in pretty bowls, up away from kids and pets. I even have a small bowl with holes in it, that is supposed to hold potpourri, on my bookcase with vinegar!! Try it:)

You need to get an anti-bacterial spray - this will kill the bacteria that is causing the odour in the first place. (I'm not saying you have a 'dirty' house but eveyone has bacteria from time to time!)
Also you could try burning some scented candles or some inscence sticks - these are an effective way of having a longer lasting smell!

Anything that is naturally made (sachet's for drawers and closets) won't harm the kids and your pets. Natural cures are the best since they don't harm humans or the environment.

you can use the best air neutralizers available, (ozium is the best) but until you address the source of the stink, the proteins will continue to break down and off gas stink, there is no magic wand, sorry
