apparently these two cities argue over the title "the most northerly city in the world"
Hammerfest lies at just over 70 degrees north, while Honningsvåg lies at just under 71 degrees. For more than 200 years, though, Hammerfest has claimed that it's the northernmost city in the world.

Honningsvåg, with its 2,000 residents, won official status as a city just 10 years ago. Now it wants to take over Hammerfest's claim to fame.

Then there's this one:
St. Petersburg occupies 1439 km2 of area. It lies at eastern shores of the Gulf of Finland. Geographic coordinates of the city centre are 59°57' north latitude and 30°19' east longitude.

Then there's Iqaluit in Northern Canada - growing city - no trees - population 4,000 and growing. Location: Nunavut Territory, 291.482° E, 63.753° N
