How about doing a decade remembrance.
in the 1990's there was this type of music.. headlines... popular clothing style... in the 1980's... there was this type of music .. headlines... popular clothing style.. etc.. all the way back till she/he was born. you can make collages on poster board and put them around the hall. If this person had a profession.. personalize it with things from each decade that affected his/her profession.
For give aways... find out what her/his favorite chocolate, favorite color, favorite beverage.. etc.. and have a door prize with these items.
Maybe make a few Cd's with some of the persons favorite songs, or perhaps this person telling a few favorite family stories.. these are the precious things of life.
