Hello =)

Well,....usually when it happens suddenly, it is because the air in your home has suddenly dried out a lot....

Has it recently gotten cold where you live, that you've had to turn up your heat, drying out the air??

If that is the case, then running a humidifier might help....or maybe it won't be enough, and you'll be stuck with creaky floors until you can open up your windows again in spring......

Namaste,

It may be due to the weather or settling. It might help add some additional nailing in the floors, the right way to do this would be to pull up the carpet or whatever flooring is over the area and nail or screw it to the floor trusses or beams (as your case may be). I have heard that it is typical for contractors to simply nail through the carpet to fix a problem like that, it's not the right way to do it but it may an option for you especially if you don't like the idea of pulling up the carpet. The most important thing to remember when completing additional nailing/screwing on the floor is that if you're not hitting the structural supports, you're wasting your time.

I've heard that you can get a powder or something to put in the cracks, but that it may be very dirt and something about animals. Was on HGTV a week ago.
