Good point, I'm going to say that it's for those cases where they are with someone else and they want to be the ones to push the buttons.

I suspect these dots are not meant for the blind, but as a reference point. They are also found on the F and J keys of most keyboards (at least North American keyboards) to be used as a reference while typing. In elementary school we had to learn to type (although few really did), and we were not allowed to look at the keyboard, so we were supposed to put our index fingers on the ridges to algin ourselves properly. Although this is the same as with a calculator, I suspect it is still a reference point.

If it were truly for the blind I suspect that they would use braille. One dot is the symbol for one or a. Five is represented by dots in the first and fifth cell. It seems strange to label a five with a one.

Calculators were around a lot longer then computers. Also, I used to do data entry on the computer. I could see the screen but did not want to look at the keyboard all the time. The dot, CALLED THE HOME ROW, would allow us to use the 10 key without looking.

It's a reference point for the other numbers just like on a keyboard the letters f and j have dots on them so we don't have to look at the keyboard when we type. We just line our hands up over the dots and then we know where all the other letters are!

Its not a dot for the blind, its so you dont have to look at the keypad when you punch in the numbers. Just like the "dots" on the j and f on your keyboard.

It's not for the blind. The little dot is for ten keying. That is when you can type on the keys without looking and the little dot helps you keep track of where your fingers are.

The dot on the five helps orient blind people so that they know when they are touching the dot, they are touching the middle of the keypad which is a five. They 'know' then that up on button is a two..down one button is an eight...etc...

So that the brighter among us can use the calculator while looking at a sheet of figures. Kind of like how the J and the F keys on your computers have bumps.

maybe its so if someone taught them where the numbers are or something, then they can use the #5 dot as a guide seeing as its in the middle of everything. and if u can find the middle, hopefully, you will know where everything else is.
