Here is the situation....
My ex husband has a friend who has an older car sitting on his property which belongs to his friends brother who is in prison for life...not getting out.
The title is lost, and my ex's friend wants him to take the car. It will have to be towed, it is over 30yrs old and my son will restore it.
How or what to do since the owner of the car is in prison for life and told his brother to get rid of it anyways?
Is there such a thing of a mechanics lien? Or what to do about the title?

The owner of the car, even in prison, can apply for a replacement title. So can anyone authorized in writing by him, or anyone having power of attorney. That is by far the easiest way. The owner's brother MIGHT be able to get a replacement title if he went in person to the DMV and explained why it was needed, but I suspect that would depend on what state you all live in and the mood the DMV employee was in that day.
