I once stayed at a hotel there on my way to somewhere else and it seemed to be a nice enough little town. There are definitely some wonderful little side trips you could take with that as your home base. As to racism, I certainly didn't sense any, but what can one tell about that from one night's stopover?

Oxnard is very beautiful, half way between LA and Santa Barbara, no it is not racist, but you are expected to act respectively, as in all places. It has great ocean scenic view, and is the best place for Split Pea soup and Bread, has a famous restaurant there. Kinda like a little village on the ocean. You'll like it, and Im sure it has clubs, BUT REMEMBER this, the cops in Cali dont play, they are NOT as passive as here in Detroit. And it wont be a Rodney King kinda thing, they just dont take any sh** so if you DO have to come in contact with one, be straight up, dont be a smart a**, and play the game their way meaning dont fu** up and you have no problems !

Well racists are everywhere, but it's not as bad as LA & visiting family is way more important then worring about that. one thing I remember about Oxnard is that it's pretty smelly with all the cows and pollution near by, but you guys can go to the beach or more inland if you don't want to stay there all day:) have fun visiting your cousin.

Oxnard, California is over 2,400 hours west of Detroit, Michigan and I am wondering why this question is classifyed under traveling to Detroit, Michigan?
