There are going to be three, total. They've already finished filming the third movie, and it is scheduled to be released in theatres in May 2007.

right now there are 2 pirates movie; "Pirates 1: Curse of the Black Pearl;" "Pirates 2: Dead Man's Chest" and now there is going to be a Pirates 3: At World's End coming to theaters on may 25 of this year

There is one more planned. But both Johnny Depp and Jerry Bruckheimer have said that they would make a fourth if they got a good script. Keira Knightley, however, said she isn't interested in making any more sequels. So, definitely three, but possibly more.

I have both of them and they did make the ending of the second one to where there could possibly be a third. If so-COOL- 'cause they were both great movies!

As with many recent flicks, they come in threes to complete a trilogy. Occasionally they'll throw in a fourth, but if they're smart they'll quit while they're ahead.
