If you are changing it to avoid creditors or people you owe money, the courts will not grant a name change for that reason. I changed my (& my kids) names a few years ago, and it was actually easy. I bought the paperwork at an office supply store and filled it out. Then you pay a filing fee to the court, and wait for a court date. It is the law in my state that you have to notify via public forum, meaning I had to purchase a legal ad in the paper, and run it once a week for 4 weeks. You just take the papers to the paper of your choice, and they run the notice. If you are trying to avoid somone (for personal reasons) you may want to choose a paper most people woulnt bother to read. There are lots of obscure papers or weekly locals who run these types of ads. Then you go to court & the judge asks you questions, like why you are changing you name, if you are evading creditors, if you have ties to the community. You usually have to list your parents name & address (even if you are an adult) or some other next of kin. The court thing took me about 5 minutes total. It was all pretty simple, just time consuming. If you are changing your name to escape someone violent, I suggest a lawyer who might be able to petition the court without a public notice. I changed my name because I cut ties with an abusive parent, & didnt want to carry that name. I actually used a name from my favorite movie. Corny, but I couldnt be happier with my new name & new life.

Contact the local courthouse and see what their regulations are becasue every state is different. As long as you aren't aiming to hide from the authorities or financial institutions, there shouldn't be any problems.

Whatever name you go with should be something of your choosing. What do you want your new name to be?

You can use whatever name you wish as long as you are not doing it for fraudulent or illegal purposes.

How about Rose Bush, or Rose Plant?
