No, I would not rank them number one without playing Florida. Yes, there should be a playoff system, but it will not happen anytime soon. The major conferences get too much money from their Bowl Game arrangments. Take the Big Ten. The Big Ten chanp automatically plays in the Rose Bowl which is a BSC bowl. If the top Big Ten team is playing for the national championship (like Ohio State did) then the number two team in the Big Ten plays in the Rose Bowl (Michigan this year). That means the Big Ten automatically has two teams in the BSC bowls and the conference gets a huge cut of that.
The sad thing is that a playoff system would generate roughly 50-60 million dollar more per year, but the money would be divided equally amoung the conferences meaning the major conferences make less.
I used the Big Ten as an example because it is their Commissioner, James E. Delany, who is the biggest opponent of a playoff system and is perhaps the most influential man in college football.

Boise St. are the TRUE National Champions.
They should have been the team playing Ohio St. last night, and they probably would have put up (at least) 60 on Ohio St. considering how the Buckeyes played last night. It's not as easy to go undefeated in non-BCS conferences as most people think. Boise St. is the only team in the nation to finish the season undefeated, they are the National Champions. Period.
College football has needed a play-off for several years, and this year was only further proof of that.

I enjoyed Boise St.s amazing win a great deal, but actually saying they DESERVE the National Title - thats a joke. The following is Boise State's 2006 schedule with RANKED teams noted:
Sacramento State
Oregon State
Wyoming
Hawaii
Utah
Louisiana Tech
New Mexico State
Idaho
Fresno State
San Jose State
Utah State
Nevada
No. 11 Oklahoma W 43-42
Get the point? You beat 1 ranked team ALL YEAR by 1 point! I honestly beleive the WORST team in the SEC could go undefeated playing that schedule! Enjoy your "undefeated" season, but careful what you wish for...Florida & at least 6 other SEC teams would totally expose & embarrass you. Finally, If you want respect - play a respectable schedule.

Let's see they beat Hawaii, Fresno State and Louisiana Tech....oh hell yeah is there any doubt? Let's crown them right now.
The BCS is perfect because it refuses to reward teams like Boise State whose entire schedule is crap. I could think of about 15 other teams that would have been undefeated if they played Boise State's schedule.
I'm fine with the BCS. You put in a playoff system and then teams playing great football all year will start putting in their backups and stop caring about the end of the regular season once their playoff spot is locked up. What happens to Michigan-Ohio State?? Florida-Florida State??? Those games will mean nothing if a playoff system is enacted.
The way it is now EVERY game is important. I say no....keep the bowls.
Boise St wants a fair shot??? Apply for entry to the Pac-10.

WOW! theres enough states on their schedule to start a new country! I didnt know some of those schools even played football. babytron0 posted: yes. i remember the time when if you finished undefeated you won the title. NO TEAM WITH A ONE LOSS SHOULD EEEEEEEVER BE CROWNED A CHAMPION especially when there's another team with no loses. ------------------------Ahh...exactley WHEN was that??? Was it in 2004 when Auburn was 12 - 0 with wins over FL, GA, LSU, TN, AL,etc... & wasnt invited to the BCS title game. Also ask Joe Pa & Penn St. about that! Moron!
babytron0 posted: "for all you idiots who clearly don't watch college ball. boise state was dooooominating the sooners for 3 quaters." ---- So what???? WOW - that really deserves the National Championship!!!
come on if youre going to make stupid statments at least know the facts. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- stupid statements???? You mean like when someone opines with their emotions WITHOUT any real facts to back up their STUPID claims?????? Get real, the top 3 of the major conferences would whip Boise State! Florida or LSU or Auburn would take their starters out at the half it would be so 1 sided.
Get some real facts to back up your lame claim, and I agree Boise's schedule is pathetic. PLAY someone that has a football program!!!!!!! - Then talk your trash.

certainly Boise St. would desire to be ranked at #4 interior the country, yet clarification for them not being ranked form one or 2 is a susceptible schedule and does not play against stable high quality communities. i understand Boise play against Michigan State next seaon, so as that they'd have a harder schedule. i admire Boise St. and need that they'd play for a countrywide championship.

for all you idiots who clearly don't watch college ball. boise state was dooooominating the sooners for 3 quaters. it wasn't until a few bad plays and some help from the ref's put the sooners back into the game. also..a beat up sooner team? lol...they were one of 2 teams to be on a roll at the end of the season. they were actually considered over florida.
come on if youre going to make stupid statments at least know the facts.

HELL NO and FIFTH was way too high as well playing no one in a nothing conference their only legit claim to fame was beating Oklahoma (why isn't stoops fired or resigned by now?).Then again the more important questions is WHY OSU SECOND????????? LSU at 3rd is even a stretch USC 4th is too LOW! because of all of the top 25 teams they whipped up on.
The polls suck and there will NEVER be a playoff because of the greedy bastards in the NCAA who would rather play ban the mascot than come up with a playoff format.

I don't think Boise State is in the same league as Florida, OSU, LSU, or USC. They are a great team but they play a weak schedule in the WAC....And I know they beat everyone they played...but who did they play...the only good team was Oklahoma...and they had to scach and claw to win that game.
I will say that beating Hawaii and Oregan State were good wins as well but not powerhouse wins. The thing I would love to see is a hybrid of the BCS....Here is how it would work.
Take the top 7 bowls:
Orange, Rose, Sugar, Fiesta (currently the BCS bowls)
Cotton, Gator, Capital One (next 3 top bowls)
Take the top 8 teams in the country:
1. Ohio State
2. Florida
3. Michgan
4. LSU
5. USC
6. LOUISVILLE
7. Wisconsin
8. Boise State
Match up:
Saturday December 23rd
#1 Ohio State vs. #8 Boise State in the Sugar Bowl
(rotated each year btwn BCS bowls)
#2 Florida vs. #7 Wisconsin in the Cotton bowl
(rotated each year btwn the 3 non BCS bowls)
#3 Michigan vs. #6 LOUISVILLE in the Capital One bowl
(rotated each year btwn the 3 non BCS bowls)
#4 LSU vs. #5 USC in the Gator Bowl
(rotated each year btwn the 3 non BCS bowls)
Saturday December 30th
[Winner #1 v #8] vs. [Winner #3 v #6] in the Rose bowl
(rotated each year btwn BCS bowls)
[Winner #2 v #7] vs. [Winner #4 v #5] in the Sugar bowl
(rotated each year btwn BCS bowls)
Saturday January 6th
National Championship game
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
(rotated each year btwn BCS bowls)

No....people need to stop saying this. Boise state played well in a very easy conference. Good for them beating oklahoma they deserve to be ranked 5th.
As for the playoff yes there should be one.
