The Spartans couldn't even win against Alexander's deputy Antipater - King Agis killed and most of his army in the Battle of Megalopolis 331 BC. Antipater's army probably contained the C3s, the old men and the boys - most of the A1s of military age would have been off with Alexander.
The Spartans had training but lacked manpower - the Macedonians had both.

Pshaw... the Persians only had so much trouble because they didn't know the way around the bottleneck. A native Greek army would have no such difficulty. Plus, the Persians used inferior tactics, and were ill-equipped: Xerxes's battle plan was basically to send wave after wave of spearmen against the Greeks, eventually suffocating them with a pile of dead Persians. The Spartans were overrated, like the Soviet Union. Today, Sparta has a population of about 40,000 people, whoop-te-doo.

i agree with brock. for all we know alexander could have been a scrawny little guy. just had an exceptional strategic brain! the spartan would win. that's like saying marine recon or army rangers [spartan] vs an army commanding officer who pretty much just makes all the decisions but doesnt do anything himself [alexander]

If Philip II of Macedon could defeat the Thebians at the Battle of Charonea, especially when he pitted his phalanx against the Thebians' elite Sacred Band, Alexander could easily defeat Sparta, given his improvement on his father's tactics & strategy.
