Democracy is NOT based on the 2 party system. Where did you get that idea? Oh yeah, I forgot. You got that impression from the news media because they only pay attention to the 2 major parties in the U.S. Believe me, there are more than 2. Do some research.

I agree with the two previous answers. Most "democratic" states, many of them in Europe, have more than two parties. UK has three major partie for example and some have many more. Greece, the "inventor" of democracy currently has four parties represented in Parliament, but during elections there were twenty-some seeking representation.

democracy is not a two-party system. Ours, however, IS ruled by two major parties, albeit with diverse voices within each.
