Skateboarding shoes tradittionaly are made with a gum rubber sole for gripping the board. Some nonskateboarding shoes use the same materials as well as volcanized rubber(converse for example) Some skate shoes have triple stiching and extra layers of leather to last a little longer against skateboard abuse. The flat sole better for board control and some skate shoes have shock absorbing insoles or sometimes built right into the sole itself. Once in a while in the form of an airbag or some spaceage new rubber someone invented.

Your airforce 2 's should be alright but once you get used to skateboarding with a good pair of skate shoes, you will never try anything else.

yes because they provide grip for your shoes and its easier to ollie and do tricks, and they're pretty good because you can use them over and over, i had skate shoes that i had for 3-4 years, worn out but still has good grip, if you take care of them well, but yea they help ALOT! making riding easier as well as tricks etc.
