Okay, it sounds to me like what you are talking about is what most people call eugenics. If by this you mean you suggested that people should be held to the standards of show dogs as in; to choose the best breeding stock. Selective breeding in humans is frowned upon because just who would decide the standards of what makes the best human?

Dogs are here largely because humans have manipulated their genetics either with purpose of just by their interaction with early proto-dogs. For us to continue in that manipulation according to standards is a far cry from enforcing a standard on human kind.

I may be going incompletely the wrong direction with this, but you are being pretty vague as to what you mean.

And humanizing an animal is wrong too. That does not mean you should treat them poorly. However, people take humanization too far and expect dogs or other animals to have the same understanding and levels of comprehension as a human. Treating a dog as if it is the greatest love of your life (in a non-sexual way) is wonderful. Expecting him to just understand everything you want of him is not.

Dogs should be treated like dogs, that just should not have the bad connotation is seems too. My dog is treated wonderfully, and has expectations set upon him that he is capable of living up to.

The answer is NO, it shouldn't go both ways. People can be over affectionate with animals if they want, but should never treat people like animals!

A lot of people don't have kids or families and have their pets as the only thing that they can call "family." This doesn't make it okay for other people to take their children and chain them outside with the dog. Completely different species, completely different expectations.
