my computer every now and then turns on during the night when i'm asleep usually around 2:00am to 3:30am normally i turn it off just by pushing the button but last night i was holding the button down untill it would turn off and it never would then i disconnected it and it went off. Now during the day it was totally fine. This normally happens about once a month or maybe more then two months. Those other times i just push the button and it turns off but not last night do you guys think something is wrong with my computer or is it a spirit?

Check your automatic defrag or scandisk settings first, before you freak out. If indeed some entity is smart enough to fire up your desktop it is also smart enough to leave you a message, if not , maybe it's not an Entity at all but some hacker who's stealing your personal info. !!!!!! Do you have wifi with remote wake up enabled?

P.S. I do truly believe in ghosts / spirits as I myself have encountered on many occasions but although i'm not saying this is the case , check evrything else out first! Good Luck!

I think we can approach this problem logically before addressing the spirit question which I will.

Check if your computer has any (pre-defined) settings that turns itself off.

I am thinking you may have a powersaver function or a screen saver that if not used for a while will automatically shut down if no acitivity or depending on the operating system you have, you can check if there is any setting selected.

As for the spirit would you have anyone in your family or close friends who may have passed on you would play games with you if you had a computer? If you did answer yes, are you comfortable that they would want to let you know they are around you?

I would get the computer checked out before I jumped to conclusions, HOWEVER...
My husband has been studying spirits and reported hauntings for 17 years now, and he has the theory that ghosts/spirits are mostly electromagnetic energy that travels easily in 2 ways: by electricity, and by water.(same as an electric pulse). They CAN travel through walls and in the "regular" air, but it's kind of like the difference between us running on sand and running on asphalt.
This is why you have faucets and lights (and sometimes computers?) turning on and off on their own. They travel through pipes and electric wires.
Something else he has noticed: The placement of your computer: is it located above your water heater?
He thinks that if there is a haunting, this is where the spirit often 'rests' and there are often the most occurrences in this are of the home.

A computer can be set to turn itself on at a certain time each day, week or month. So long as power is going to it. Not if the electricity has been shut off. I've seen the options for it. You can actually set it to turn on and connect to the Internet if you have dial up, and later shut itself back down. I don't think your computer is possessed. I have thought about doing just that to my wife's computer to freak her out, but then thought better of it. She'd figure it out before too long, and I'd get whacked upside the head.

personally I wonder about these things myself although I do not believe in ghosts I do believe in spirits,my first thought would be to have my computer taken to the shop and make sure that there was nothing wrong there then I think I would try to find out if they had some kind of power surge at that time every night I would check all obvious things,I feel sometimes like mine can read my mind kind of eerie huh

Lets really ask the question "Do you believe in Ghost". Most people will say no. My boyfriend gets really made when I tell people this because he is a none believer. I have lived in a haunted house. When I was about 6 or 7 my family and I lived in the country in a huge house built in the early 20's. Nice pond with ducks, a peach orchard, very nice. I remember my mom asking daddy why they got the house so cheap. He said someone had killed themself in the house and no one would buy the house. I was young so it really didnt bother at the time. A couple of weeks after we moved in things started happening. My mom still to this day swears she heard my sister in the kitchen making something to eat and talking to someone. She got up to talk to her and no one was there. My dad said something kept grabbing his feet one night, which made him get up and sleep in the floor of my brothers room. I remember the shades going up and down in this one room only when me and my mom were feeding the ducks and no one else would be home. You would look up the shades would be down look again in 30 min they would be up. At first my mom would search the house to see who was there then we finally decided it was Charlie, the kid who killed himself. We lived in the house until i was 10 so got many stories, to many to write, but to answer your question, I dont think you have a ghost. Something wrong with your computer, by you never know.

instea of pushing the button to turn ur computer off, do it by clicking on start & "turn off computer" It probably isn't helping if it isn't being turned of properly.

Otherwise, ask out loud (if any spirits are there & listening) for them to do something to your computer that night & see what happens.
