I'm 19, male and been single all my life. Quite a few people have encouraged me to 'start getting a girl' or something as cheesy as that. Some people are even surprised that I've never even gone out with a girl all my life and I have no intention in doing so either. To me, apart from many reasons why, I don't date or even chat up girls (or anyone/anything for that matter) and it's not even on my life's 'list of things to do'. But why do some people especially ones who have or are dating themselves are more concerned when a) it's none of their business and b) it'll bring no benefit to them whatsoever?

Most people relate "happiness" with having a partner, unfortunately.

It sounds like you're comfortable with your decision and those encouraging you may feel less pressure (they put on themselves) if you've got a partner, so they don't feel guilty for not spending time with you or they believe the happiness they're yielding from their relationship should be the same for everyone and they want to see you happy - just a thought.

First off, Good Job, I have the much respect for you.

I have a few answers to this, not sure which is right...

People belive in Karma. What goes around comes around.

People think that the only way to be happy is to have a love life.

People think that your not fulfilling your job as a humanbeing by not making babies!

People want to believe that "love" is something for everybody, and that everyone has a 'soul mate' that they will someday meet...

I saw a show on T.V. not to long ago about that subject and their were a lot of people that feel the same way that you do. I think that they have some kind of club that they started. They said that they had no desire to ever date and that they wish that people would just let them live their lives. So don't feel like your the only one that has these feelings.

Because boring attached people who like to stay at home watching TV feel bad when their single friends want to go out all the time and they have to constantly turn them down. It's a way of easing our guilt, sorry!

People like to think they know what's best for everyone else. Thus everyone assumes because they enjoy dating and going out, that means you must have someone too.

I hate to tell you, but this will go on your whole life. It's lame and stupid. You do what you want, when you want, and listen to yourself for what you like. Just nod and thank people and tell them you are just fine. It still won't stop them, but they'll get the point one day.

Society sees itself as better served by mating pairs. It's something families teach us from our earliest years. As a rouge you may even look like a threat to the established order. Hopefully, we can get away from the requirement of mating to things conducive to creative thought and individuality.
Your best response to their queries is just to ignore them.

Nosey!!!

But it is a good idea to gradually prepare yourself to have relationships since it is important to learn how to handle your emotions. Relationships are great and can be a wonderful source of focus for lfe -- but they can also hurt a lot and it is good to experience all the crap before tying the knot.

I learnt that relationships hurt through a bad relationship and could not imagine how painful it was. It really sucks!!

I didn't start dating until I was 20, or 19... I can't remember.
I say, don't worry about. It's your decision, screw them.
