"IF" an advanced alien race has been watching this planet for centuries, don't you think they'd be shaking their heads in disgust at most aspects of our civilisation

NOT IF the alien race worshiped war and shiting on thy neighbour, perhaps we are just not bad enough for them to grace us with their presence yet. Maybe we are not worthy competition or sport yet. Or maybe we are just the first life after the bang and we have to restart it all over again.
or maybe they just know we are full of crap and know nothing about anything.

Yes probably, Pinkdenial made an excellent point but that's assuming that the aliens placed us here as an experiment or are somehow overseeing our development.
If the case should be that we evolved completely independently then we really do have a lot of issues as a planet and the aliens revealing themselves would hopefully unite the warring nations, but I seriously doubt that will happen in our lifetime, not that I don't believe it will happen, we are just too immature as a civilisation to handle that fact just now.

I think as a planet, we have come a long way. We have good areas and bad areas. Our technology has advanced so quickly in the past 50 years yet we continue to ignore massive genocide that is happening on a daily basis. I believe IF there was an advanced alien race watching us they would see we have advanced in a relatively normal fashion so therefore, we wouldn't be that far behind any other existing planets.

Why would you say that?

Anything and everything in Nature always fights for dominion over others of its kind. There is not one single organism on the face of the planet that does not guard its territory physically if necessary.

Why is it that everyone automatically assumes we are the only ones in the Universe that are the warmongering kind? I doubt seriously that any other aliens race out there has a completely benevolent society founded upon a millennial long concept of peace and cooperation.

Chances are that they see their own ancient past playing out . Possibly involving themselves only when absolutely necessary. I can picture aliens sitting in their space ships watching our planet and us . Much the same way we go to the movies or diner theater. The playbill might read " Come see the Planet Earth the Universes greatest tragic comedy".

Well, I'm not disgusted, a little puzzled though. Why don't you have jets on your cars and fly over all that mess on your motorways?
I mean, you have those tube things in the sky, they work well.

I tell you what does amuse me, dancing to the flashing blue lights on your police cars, as they go nee naw, every two seconds, isn't it?

Seriously, I think any alien would think of us as vulnerable individuals. We've lost our way, and need pointing in the right direction.

I think they would have got bored well before 100 years had past. I think they would have left in search of intelligent life in the universe after about 12 minutes. About the same length of time you or I could be bothered watching monkeys at the zoo. Just like at the zoo, maybe they would swing back past on their way out, just to see if we'd stopped flinging poo at each other.

They have been watching us for a long time. They do not reveal themselves, because to do so would also be to reveal their technologies. Very dangerous for mankind to have their technology. Someone gets their manhood bruised and they are off to the asteroid belt to tow one in towards the earth. It only takes one bruised manhood to kill everyone. Our governments know about them and cover up their technology as national and world security. So yes, they do shake their heads in disgust.

Depends, they may think we're too nice. It's all about culture. But they'd probably be shaking their heads at things like Darfur. No-one can avoid the death and pain caused by that....

You assume the Aliens think like you do.If they are so advanced and we were doing something wrong, why not stop us. They must be evil to let us continue messing things up.Or are we an Alien experiment? Scary!!!
