The Joker said this phrase to Bruce Wayne when he encountered him at Vicki Vail's apartment. The Joker said, "Have you ever danced witht he devil in the pale moonlight? That is something I ask all my prey." Then the Joker shot Bruce. The Joker also said it to Bruce's parents before he killed them.

The phrase means have you ever found yourself in a horrifying situation when no one is around to assist.

"The Devil" or evil is often tempting & seductive. Dancing is also physically and emotionally arousing. "The Pale Moonlight" suggest no one is watching, no one will know. The assumption is that everyone, at one time or another, has had that forbidden dance or desperately wanted it. So, the question is, "Have you ever fulfilled this sinful, immoral act or been tempted to, believing no one would ever find out?" I can't remember for sure, but wasn't this phrase in on of Meatloaf's songs from, "Bat Out of Hell"?

I think it means to be seduced and profoundly deceived by someone who cleverly leads you to believe he is sincere and good...but...he is the "devil in disguise' so to speak
