Jesus was a progressive, or liberal by political terms
Yet he was not political, he would not have sided with democrats or Republicans
And in the bible, there is refrence to people like modern day conservatives that he cast out of the temple
from several of the answers on here that said conservative,
One of his big teachings was Judge not lest ye be judged

Conservative definitely. I am amazed at much misinformation posted. Jesus never once taught tolerance- He taught love. A huge difference. Proverbs 1:31 says, "those who hate me love death". Too many liberals love abortion (or, death). They love it so much they will fight for it. Jesus never did and never will violate scriptures on murder or any others. That goes for homosexuality as well. So He could NOT be a liberal.. I know of no conservative who is against feeding the poor although many don't make it a top priority. "The poor you will always have with you and when you want, you can do good to them". Those who have been saved and help the poor will receive an eternal reward (unless they call attention to what they are doing for the praise of people) but it is not some top commandment that trumps all others even though many liberals act like it is.

Our ideas of what constitutes "liberal" and "conservative" would be incomprehensible to someone living 2000 years ago, but the anti-establishment nature of Jesus' ministry would probably put him on the left.

Oh, and for those who are saying Jesus was above politics...you do realize he was executed as a political dissident, right?

Liberal...you don't give your entire life (literally) for your beliefs with conservative principals.
Liberal is giving...Jesus personified liberalism.
Conservative Christians certainly would not think that Jesus would be a liberal, yet -- as with most things -- they are wrong.

We are given some hints in the Bible and the Catholic Church's teachings about whether Jesus would be a liberal or a conservative:

In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus proclaims that how you treat the hungry, the thirsty, the sick and other "least of these," is how you treat Jesus himself. And if you fail to help the "least of these," Jesus promises, he will send you to Hell.

Catholic social doctrine holds that the resources of the earth, and the output of man's work, are meant to be shared equitably by all.

The Catholic Church calls for a "preferential option for the poor."

An overwhelming concern for the poor and for economic justice permeates the Old Testament.

There is the redistribution of wealth injunction of the Old Testament Jubilee Year, when slaves were released and land returned to its original owners.

And last but not least, do I even have to bring up the clarion words of Jesus repeated in virtual identical fashion in three of the Gospels:

Mark 10:25

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. [other translations]

Such a teaching directly out of the mouth of Christ does not indicate a favorable attitude towards the type of unbridled accumulation of wealth celebrated by conservative "right-wing pseudo-Christians".

I certainly wouldn't call Him a liberal. Did He promote drugs, homosexuality or abortion? Did He encourage the creation of the Welfare State? As I recall, He said that we each have an obligation to help those in need.

Its hard to imagine liberals taking the narrow path. The liberal doesn't want rules. He wants license.

First break that down into different questions
1. Liberals support killing unborn children, do you think Jesus does?
2. Liberals support homosexuality, do you think Jesus does?
3. Liberals support the idea that we came from apes, do you think Jesus does?
4.Liberals support same sex marriage, do you think Jesus does?
5. Liberals think you can do what ever and get into their heaven, do you think Jesus does?

Jesus would say neither. He was all about bringing people together, not separating people along political lines. However, judging just by what is written in the bible, he was very liberal for his time. This is evidenced by the Pharisee's shock at His disregard for Jewish law at the time. However, in today's society, He would be seen as conservative because of his strong focus on morals.

He was above such things. To say he was a liberal is blasphemy. I can not imagine Him taking the side of the liberals that believe in gay marriage, abortion, and are so hypocritical. Neither can I see Him (He gave his earthly life for the sake of all mankind) taking the side of the conservatives that squandered their chance to save their country simply because of their greed and lust for earthly treasures and pleasures.

Despite his attempts to be apolitcal, render unto ceasar etc, he was a social revolutionary. He believed in affiliating with the poor , the diseased and the outcast of society. He treated pharisees and scribes with disdain. His friends were fishermen and shepards and a tax collector. He was non violent even repriomanding Peter for trying to protect him in the garden. He was the antithesis of what passes for American Values in our political system BOTH SIDES take money from the wealthy to whom they owe favor. In the social sense he was a liberal bur nor politically.

Neither. If people would quit misquoting the Bible or interpreting it to fit their beliefs they would find that Jesus was more than politics. He cared not for "libs/repubs, he cared for all of mankind.
