This is impossible to answer without more information. It all depends on where your location is going to be, equipment, etc. It is possible to do it very cheaply as far as up front money is concerned if you lease everything, but then your monthly nut is going to be much bigger. If you had say $50,000.00, you could probably make a pretty good stab at it. The price you will pay for a location lease will depend on where it is located. You will have to shop locations, get lease prices on equipment and figure up what you will need for the first six months to a year to pay labor, insurance, etc. Then you hope that your revenue will increase monthly fast enough to cover all of that and make some sort of profit. Be warned that this is a very difficult business. Many, many people sink a small fortune into this type of enterprise and lose every dime.

My guess is $500,000 and that's all a huge gamble. It's not just the start up costs of space and equipment, you need to have enough money on hand for payroll and inventory and expenses for at least a year. Remember most businesses aren't profitable for 5 years, and the number one failing business in the first 3 years statistically hands down is a restaurant.

a lot, but the actual number depends on the type of restaurant. most restaurants fail in the first couple of years because they do not have enough capital to survive.

it takes years before you will even turn a profit so you need enough money for start-up costs and to pay your employees and yourself for at least the first 2-3 years...

only 6-7 hundred thousand. That will get you the shell of the building in one of the WORST parts of town, then add in the 250'000 for equipemt, seismic retrofit and furniture. Figure about a million and that will get you a take out burrito place. You want tables and triple that. Think I'm lying? Welcome to San Francisco.
