1.Drink lots of fluids (water is best), this helps to make stool softer.
2.Get adequate sleep
3.Eat meals at regular times. Breakfast is the most important.
4.Exercise regularly. Do exercises which can increase the tone of lower abdominal and pelvic muscles.
5.Do not ignore the urge to have a bowel movement because you are too busy.
6.Allow time (15 min. at least) after breakfast to sit on the toilet. Relax and don't strain.
7.Avoid medications that are constipating if at all possible. Calcium, iron and narcotic analgeseics are just a few of these.
8.Do not take harsh laxatives unless directed by a doctor.
9.Add additional bulk to the diet with bran.
10.Cut back on dairy foods such as cheese, and on eggs which can be constipating.
11.Practice relaxation techniques. Stress can cause constipation.
12.Consider adding more fiber to your diet when traveling. Changes in routine can cause constipation.
Additional Tips:
1.If constipation is a new problem and persists, you should follow-up with your doctor.
2.If constipation is accompanied by abdominal pain or blood in the stool you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

Hang in there girl, I feel your pain. I'm pregnant too, and I was struggling with the issue. It is normal and does happen to almost every pregnant woman. It's caused by a few things. First, the hormones in your body are slowing down your digestive system. This allows more nutrients to be absorb for you and your baby. Second, if your taking iron supplements then this will definitely caused some constipation. This is what I do to try and relieve some discomfort. Be sure to drink plenty of water, foods high in fiber, and one of the most important things is exercise. It doesn't have to be strenuous, but some moderate activity for at least 30 minutes a day will help out. Most doctors will recommend a stool softener if you are taking iron supplements. Good Luck!

Follow these tips to relieve or prevent constipation.
Exercise regularly. It is the best protective measure against constipation. Light to moderate walking helps the bowel movement and decrease the bloated feeling.
Drink plenty of liquids. At the time of pregnancy, the amount of water absorbed from the intestine into the blood is higher. Hence you should increase your water consumption to protect the health of the intestines as well as the baby. The least water you should drink is 10, 8-ounce glasses. During hot or humid weather, drink more fluid. Ensuring your body is well hydrated will avoid constipation.
Take right calcium and vitamin supplements. Wrong selection of supplements can lead to bloating and constipation. The best calcium supplements are the ones that are highly soluble in the pH of vinegar. TUMS and Calcitrate meet this criterion. Avoid antacids as they contain aluminum that can cause constipation.

Yes, it does go away. I don't remember what causes that exactly, maybe the prenatal vitamins, but at any rate, it does get better!! All I can safely advise is a diet where you are drinking at least the minimum amount of water you need each day, and make sure you get fiber and lots of fruits and veggies!!

it will go away (for now) if you eat at least 2 bananas a day & drink LOTS of water.
it does come back though--Im due in 2 weeks and have had it back since baby has dropped, only now there is nothing I can do about it--baby just presses on EVERYTHING!
good luck & seriously, the water and bananas does work.

Lol, yep, ladies, it will resolve, eventually. Try eating a prune or two every day. And remember to drink water, I know it can be hard to right now, but it will really help.

Try slicing up some apple, lightly steaming it with a little honey and cinnamon. Green apples work well.
The opposite of this is to eat raw finely grated apple, again with cinnamon,to bulk up when you have diarrhoea.
Oh and keep drinking plenty of water.

Start adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet. I never have had that problem, but it does not sound like fun, especially being pregnant.
