Hi, does any one know what the Lewis electron dot diagram would be for O3? Would it consist of 3 Os each with a single bond or 3Os together in a triple covalent bond?
please help- 10 pts to first good answer( or which ever 1 makes the most sense lol_

Do either of your proposed options really make sense to you? Remember that atoms generally like to have an octet, or 8 electrons, around them.

Anyway, Ozone: one single bond, one double bond.

O-O=O

Lewis dot diagrams are hard to type up, but basically you've got 3 lone pairs (pairs of dots on the outside) on the first O, 1 on the second, and 2 on the third.

If you have learned about resonance forms, you may be required to show both possible ways to place the bonds:

[O-O=O] <--> [O=O-O]

Keep practicing with these so that you don't ask anymore questions about triple bonded oxygens, ok? :)

Ozone is a resonance hybrid of covalent bonds. Actually its sort of a triangular structure with one covalent and one resonant covalent bond between the oxygen atoms.

Ok let's figure this out. 3 O = 18 Valence = 9 Pairs

There will be resonance, and you want to minimize formal charge
O=O-O
