O.k. my boyfriend got in a car wreck about a month ago and we didn't have collision on the insurance. He was in the wrong so the car didn't get fixed my the insurance company. We don't have the money to get the car fixed right now because we've already received an estimate for over $4,000. The car was drivable until yesterday he was parking the car when the rod that turns the wheels went "cluck" So now the car won't move at all. It starts up perfectly fine but won't move because of the broken rod. I or "we" need to know the next step we should be doing. Besides finding a tow truck.........

I think that you are referring to the drive axle, rather than the tie rod. The axle assembly can be replaced with a rebuilt one for a couple of hundred dollars.

This may be related to the accident damage, or it may just be the axle went bad!

Have it checked by a good mechanic, and see if it is not just a bad CV joint in the axle.!

Besides towing it from where ever it is now... I would get into contact with the local high schools that have an auto shop program. If you cannot afford the estimated $4000 and its not drivable anyway... You never know, they may be able to repair your car and learn at the same time. This also removes the burden of storing a wrecked car at your residence..

Good luck

An owner owned a car without insurance protection is a disaster.
Obviously, you realized that when encountered with an accident you're unable to submit your claim to the insurance company.
Anyway, if the damaged vehicle is really need for transportation,
then you've to find a way to solve this problem. May God bless you good luck.

Well........the first thing is to kick your boyfriends Butt for wrecking the car in the first place and the second thing is to kick your boyfriends Butt for taking a chance withyour life by driving the car with out having the tierod replaced first ! what if the jerk was doing 45-50 mph when it snapped off! get the whole front end replaced..........inner and outer tierods center link(or rack and pinion unit) then go to the junk yard and get fenders , hood ,grill, headlights and radiator support and put them on.
