As a Jamaican who worked in the hotel industry,if you are staying in and all inclusive resort you will need only 500.00 US$ if your the thrifty type of spender, that will do it for you, that taking in to consideration that you have paid for your stay or package and just need Little money to spend.

If your stay is going to be at another hotel which dose not offer all inclusive packages or off the main tourist areas of the north coast, you may want to consider taking between 750.00 and 900,that would cover any unexpected charges.

In other words make a budget, and figure out what you want from what you need, for even 1000.00 US$ works out to approx,63000.00 and some change in Jamaican dollars( exchange rate, 65.4 to one 1 US$ dollar), and that's if your staying for 7 days taking in to consideration rooms for stay and other expenses.

But if your talking about taking money for monies sake, just to avoid worry,850,in my opinion will do,more than enough, for 7 to 12 days.
However know your wants from needs as items can sometimes be very expensive, due to inflation, and other factors.

Oh before i forget, take US for tips and for others spending purpose,1 and 5 dollar denomination bills will be great especially for small change.
Good luck hope you enjoy, and be carefull on how you handle your money.

Like others have said, it completely depends on where you're staying and if you've already pre-paid for your accomodations. Obviously if you're at an all-inclusive you won't have to pay for food or drinks or transport to and from airport so the only money you'll need is for shopping and excursions. If you're just staying at a hotel, you will need money for food and drinks and entertainment PLUS shopping and excursions.

IF you eat at some of the local restaurants you won't spend nearly as much as the "tourist traps". I usually stay at economy hotels and eat at local places to save money. For a week, about $700 would be enough for 2 people (not including shopping). Plus, most places also take Visa and Mastercard too - except for the little craft markets which only take cash.

i would take 100 USD per day (staying in non AI). Check out small local restaurants for meals. Thre are plenty of places where a heartly lunch or dinner would cost you not more then 5 USD, buy liquor and beer in a supermarket, it helps to reduce expences much as well. Use local route taxis instead of tourist taxis. Tip in jamaican dollars, like 100-150 per time. You should have enough money left over for souvenirs to your friends or some tours :-)

allways have singles on you for tipping the bellman, driver of the transfer to hotel, and sometimes, the staff ie roomservice waiter or dining room maitre de. use your own discretion if service i above average, in all inclusives if they include room service. tip the waiter at least 1 us. save for the maid too. 1 dollar to 3 is accepted greatfully
they dont expect tips ,but they wont refuse one! dependis on the hotel

It really depends on how long you are staying. If for instance you will be staying a week then I would recommend about US$800 if you plan on doing shopping and visiting various sites. If, however you are staying longer then in my opinion US$1,500 should be fine (Thats if you can afford it of course).

10% is the socially accepted tip rate. Although you might want to tip more generousely for better service. They work hard down here, and your excellent tip would mean alot.
