I bought two new struts, both for the back, I am getting it fixed, and it broke on my way home from work about thirty miles, is it safe to drive to the mechanic about 14 miles away? I live in the middle of no where

A broken strut is dangerous from the fact that it effects vehicle stability, braking and handling. No wheels are going to fall off the car though. Drive cautiously, leave lots of space and all that and you should be fine to get it to the shop.

I would recommend doing all four at the same time though, especially if its the rears that are bad. New struts on the rear with old ones on the front will make for some interesting handling and braking characteristics.

Struts should be replaced in pairs... not individually... replace fronts together and backs together ! If you drive on a broken strut, you take the risk of tire failure or even possible suspension damage... I would not drive it if the strut that needs replacing is in the front !

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Unless you are interested in risking your life and the lives of the other motorists on the road. Like the other poster says, struts should be replaced in PAIRS. Either two fronts, and/or two rears.

sure this is fantastic as long as you may submit with the noise. In relatively extreme circumstances the ideal of the strut piston the place the nut is can pull/rip interior the path of the plastic strut mount and you in actuality lose the suspension high quality of that strut whether this is unusual and ought to be relatively mistreated for that to ensue. as long as you get them replaced quickly I wouldnt complication approximately it, do the two rears at the same time as youre at it. is additionally lose nuts.
