I was using my dsl connection today and i left for a few minutes. Upon arrival my buddy list was signed off and low and behold firefox will no longer load pages. The dsl connection routers a signal to a computer upstairs, which still is able to access and use the internet, although my own connection is "down". The network connections say that the network is currently recieving packets, but its IP address is 0.0.0.0. How could the IP address have been lost? Also, the TCp/IP connections are on auto-find IP address, so i am incredibly lost in the situation?? Does anyone know a solution and/or cause of the problem!!?!?!?

Reset the modem by turning it upside down - look for little hole in middle that you can stick a paper clip into to reset. I am assuming you are running SBC and using their modem. Then connect directly to the modem with your ethernet cable to your computer. The address of the modem should be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1. Make sure you log into your service by providing your user name and password. If log in is successful and you can connect to the Internet - now connect you router - see if you can reach it by typing in one of the above addresses. Try setting enabling PPPoE first. If you cannot get to the Internet - try setting it up as DHCP.
Good luck!

It was perhaps a lost of connection. It happens ones in a while depending on the router. The options are:

Release/renew your IP from the router.
Start > Run > cmd > type:
ipconfig -release > press enter

ipconfig -renew > press enter.

If the above doesn't work as predicted. then restart the router and give it a few minutes to reload connection to the ISP server. This should work.. Good Luck !

one if you have problems the best people to contact are the manufactures and it is a free phone call by the time you get a reply from here and mess about with the replies you could have had the job done

what I would do is switch of the modem, switch off the router, switch off the computers.

boot up the modem (for a new IP address) boot up the router so the modem can confer addresses with router.. boot computer

see what happens

unplug modem router and shut down computer. plug modem back in (wait for sync, about a minute), then plug router back in then turn computer on. if the pc is still pulling 0.0.0.0 try run->cmd/ then "ipconfig /release" (enter) then "ipconfig /renew". if still no go you may have to blow the tcp/ip stack and reinstall. might have to reinstall NIC too.
